Copenhagen Airport – the main SAS airport

Copenhagen Airport in Denmark is SAS' main hub airport. Serving over 21 million passengers a year, it’s the largest airport in northern Europe. In 2010, Copenhagen Airport was listed among the top 10 best airports in the world by Skytrax. The airport has excellent facilities and getting to the city of Copenhagen is a snap.

From the US to Copenhagen and onwards

Non-stop SAS flights to Copenhagen from the US depart from New York, Washington, Chicago & San Francisco. Convenient SAS connections are available from Copenhagen Airport to other airports in Denmark, national and regional airports throughout Europe and Beijing, Shanghai & Tokyo.

International transfers: At the arrival gate, you’ll find a screen with dedicated transfer information, including how many minutes it takes to walk to a specific gate. All SAS international flights arrive in and depart from Terminal 3.

Domestic transfers: Flights to local airports in Denmark depart from Terminal 1. A free shuttle bus is available to take you between terminals.

You can reach Terminal 2 facilities and departures without leaving the main airport building.

Getting to the city of Copenhagen

Located just five miles from downtown Copenhagen, it’s easy to get from the airport to the city.

  • The DSB train to Copenhagen Central Station runs approximately every 10 minutes. It departs from the lower level of the Terminal 3 arrivals hall. Travel time: 13 minutes
  • The new light-rail Metro train will take you to the center of Copenhagen in 15 minutes. The Metro station is located at the end of Terminal 3. It operates every 4-6 minutes during the day and every 15-20 minutes at night
  • A number of city busses run from the airport to various locations in Copenhagen
  • Taxis are located outside of Terminal 3 and Terminal 1. It’s a 20-minute drive to the center of Copenhagen

Car rental

Booking or picking up a rental car in Copenhagen Airport is simple. In the arcade between Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, you’ll find a row of car rental counters: Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Budget and Sixt. In Terminal 1, the domestic flights terminal, you’ll find Avis, Hertz and Europcar counters.

Currency exchange

You can exchange US dollars, Danish kroner, Euro and other currency at the bank counters located in Terminal 2 and 3 (before security) and in the transit area. There are ATMs in all terminals. Major credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in Denmark, including in most taxis.

Restaurants, bars and cafes

There are six full-service restaurants, more than a dozen bars and cafes and plenty of fast-food restaurants. For a delicious bite of Denmark, try a real Danish pastry at the Lagkagehuset café, Scandinavian-style tapas at Eyecon Restaurant, unique Nordic cuisine at København Restaurant, or a quick Danish-style hotdog at Steff’s Place.

Shopping in Copenhagen Airport

In addition to duty-free and tax-free shops, the airport features an excellent selection of Danish brand boutiques offering modern and classic Danish design home décor and gifts, clothes, shoes, jewelry and toys.


Wireless internet access is available from most locations in Copenhagen Airport. Pay by credit card. 

SAS Fast Track security

SAS Fast Track is available in Copenhagen Airport for SAS Business and SAS Plus passengers on SAS-operated flights. EuroBonus Gold members traveling on a flight with any Star Alliance member may also take advantage ofFast Track security access in Copenhagen.

Two flagship SAS lounges with showers, kids' lounge and more

The SAS Business Lounge and the SAS Scandinavian Lounge are both located in Terminal 3 and welcomes select SAS travelers according to EuroBonus member status and flight ticket category. A separate kids’ lounge is available for the youngest travelers. In Copenhagen, SAS lounges offer extended restroom services, including showers, and a separate nap/resting room.

An airport lounge for all travelers

Enjoy the comforts of an airport lounge on a pay-per-use basis. For around $38, you can enjoy WiFi or the complimentary use of a computer on-site, drinks, snacks, light meals and international newspapers and magazines in the stately CPH Apartment lounge.

A quiet place

There is a quiet sitting area on the 2nd floor of the Terminal 2 transit area. Two multi-religious prayer rooms are also situated in the transit area.

Business meeting facilities

Private by-the-hour office space as well as meeting and conference rooms are located on the 4th floor of Terminal 3 (Hilton Meetings).

Access for disabled travelers

Copenhagen Airport is very accessible for travelers with disabilities or reduced mobility. There are elevators to and from all levels, and special assistance can be booked in advance. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are located throughout the airport.

Infants, children and teens at the airport

Copenhagen Airport welcomes young travelers. In the international transfer area (Terminal 2), you’ll find a large family lounge and complimentary strollers you can use as well as a nursery room with baby changing stations, chairs for nursing and a microwave for heating bottles and baby food. Most restrooms at the airport have changing tables. Small play areas are located throughout the airport.

The award-winning five-star Hilton Copenhagen Airport Hotel is just a minute’s walk from the Terminal 3 arrivals hall. A number of other hotels are located nearby, and hotels in the city of Copenhagen are also within easy reach of the airport.
