Special baggage
Special baggage includes items like sports equipment, musical instruments, wheelchairs, strollers and other oversized items.
Items with total dimensions greater than 158 cm (length + width + height) are considered special baggage
Depending on your ticket type, EuroBonus status and the item you're bringing, special baggage may be included in your baggage allowance at no extra cost. If not, you’ll need to pay a fee. You can check your baggage allowance when you book your trip or under My trips if you’ve already booked your flight.
Please note that special baggage may only contain the item it is registered as. Additional items are not permitted.
How to book special baggage
Add golf bags, skis, snowboards or bikes when you book your trip or no later than 24 hours before departure under My trips
For other types of special baggage or if your flight departs within 24 hours, contact SAS Customer Service
Space for special baggage is limited, so we recommend booking as early as possible.

Traveling in Premium Economy or Business

If you exceed the baggage allowance included in your ticket, you’ll need to pay a fee at the airport. Please note that sports equipment is not included in Economy Light tickets. A fee always applies.
How do I travel with a stroller or child safety seat?
You may check in 1 stroller or buggy and 1 child safety seat in addition to your checked baggage allowance.
Strollers/buggies may weigh up to 23 kg
Two-piece strollers/buggies must be packed separately
Strollers/buggies and child safety seats must be packed in a plastic bag or hard protective case. No other items may be packed in the same bag or case.
Plastic bags are sold at most airports.
If you’d like to use a child safety seat on board for a child under 2, contact SAS Customer Service to book an extra seat. Children aged 2 and above may use a child safety seat in their seats on board.
How do I book my wheelchair?
You can bring your wheelchair free of charge, but we recommend booking it at least 48 hours before departure to ensure that there is space on your flight. Just add it when you book your trip or under My trips
How do I travel with a musical instrument?
For safe transport, all instruments must be packed in a secure hard case, whether carried on board or checked in. Soft cases are not permitted. You can bring small instruments on board as a carry-on, provided they meet our maximum weight and size requirements. If your instrument exceeds our carry-on limits but measures between 90 × 20 × 10 cm and 150 × 35 × 50 cm, and weighs no more than 75 kg, you can book an extra seat by contacting SAS Customer Service. Please ensure the case has handles so it can be secured with a seatbelt.
Instruments that fit within your baggage allowance (max 32 kg) can be checked in or added as extra baggage.
Can I travel with a firearm?
Hunting and sporting weapons are allowed as checked baggage for a fee that you pay at the airport, but must be booked and approved by contacting SAS Customer Service. Please note that you must possess a valid firearm license and ensure the weapon is unloaded and, if possible, taken apart and packed separately. Ammunition weighing up to 5 kg may be carried but must be packed in its original packaging and carried in a bag separate from the weapon. If you're traveling with a firearm, we recommend checking in at least 2 hours before departure to complete the necessary paperwork and security checks. It's also a good idea to allow extra time for connecting flights. Upon arrival, contact SAS Arrival Service or a handling agent to arrange weapon delivery.
What baggage can I bring on SAS charter flights?
Different rules apply for special baggage on charter flights. Check our charter flight information or contact your travel agent or tour operator before departure to confirm space for special baggage.
Is special baggage included in my baggage allowance?
Depending on your ticket type, EuroBonus status and the item you're traveling with, some special baggage items may be included in your baggage allowance. Except on Economy Light, where a fee for sports equipment always applies. If you'd like to bring more special baggage items than your allowance includes, just contact SAS Customer Service
To add special baggage as part of your baggage allowance, just select the item from the dropdown list on the baggage page when you book or later under My trips
