Travel documents & entry requirements
To make your trip as smooth as possible, make sure you carry all necessary travel documents and meet the entry requirements for your destination. It’s always a good idea to double check everything before you leave.
All travelers must have a valid passport or travel document to check in for their flight, and all names on tickets must match the names on passports and other valid ID. Remember to check passport requirements for your destination. If documentation is missing, you may be denied boarding or entry.
It is your responsibility to ensure you meet necessary entry requirements before leaving for the airport. SAS is not liable for any consequences due to failure to obtain required documents or comply with regulations.
Special traveling requirements for children
All children must carry a valid passport or national ID.
On domestic flights, infants (0-2 years) may travel without ID with a parent carrying valid ID.
Children traveling without a parent or legal guardian may need additional documentation, such as a parental consent letter or guardian authorization.
When traveling with only 1 parent or guardian, some countries may require written consent from other parent or guardian.
Requirements for minors under 18 vary by destination. Please check with the relevant embassy or authorities before you travel to confirm any documentation requirements, including parental consent. To avoid any issues at departure or arrival, travelers may wish to carry signed parental consent when a minor is traveling without 1 or both parents or legal guardians.
Entry/Exit Systems (EES) for non-EU nationals
From 12 October 2025, all non-EU nationals (except for citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) will need to provide biometric data (e.g. facial images and fingerprints) when entering the Schengen area. This is part of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) that will replace manual passport stamping and enhance border security across the EU.
EES will be implemented gradually, with full rollout across Denmark and Norway by 10 April 2026. Sweden will adopt the system fully on 12 October 2025.
To streamline their travel, travelers can register their travel documents and facial image in advance using the new Travel to Europe app, launching 12 October 2025. The app will initially be available to travelers to Sweden before being launched for all other countries.

Advanced Passenger Information (APIS)
Before traveling to certain countries, i.e. the US and UK, you are required to provide certain information when you check in online.
Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
An ETA is a digital entry permit required for travelers from visa-exempt countries traveling to destinations such as Canada and the UK. You must apply for an ETA before you travel. It is linked to your passport and normally valid for up to 5 years or until your passport expires.
Electronic System for Travel Authorization, (ESTA)
An ESTA is an ETA specifically for travelers entering the US. It allows citizens of eligible countries to stay in the US for up to 90 days without a visa. You must apply for an ESTA before departure, and it is valid for multiple short-term visits.
Mobile passport control (MPC )

US citizens and legal residents
Canadian visitors with B1/B2 visas
Travelers from Visa Waiver Program countries with an approved ESTA

Here’s what you need to know about travel documents and entry requirements by region or country.
Traveling within Europe
Nordic citizens: No passport is required to travel within the Nordic countries (except Svalbard/Iceland), but you may be asked to show ID
EU/Schengen: A valid passport or national ID is required (EU 1157/2019)
Schengen area: No border checks, but you must carry valid ID. Some countries (Latvia, Estonia and France) may also require ID at entry/exit

Traveling to Israel
All travelers to Israel who are not Israeli citizens must have a valid visa or ETA-IL before they begin their trip. Visitors from visa-exempt countries can apply for travel authorization through the ETA-IL system before departure.
If you’re eligible, you can stay in Israel for up to 90 days.
An ETA is valid for 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
Apply at least 72 hours before departure.
Travelers who do not need a visa or ETA-IL
Travelers with a valid Israeli visa (B1, B3, B4, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5) or who hold a foreign passport but also have Israeli citizenship.
Travel and official representatives, including crew members in the crew APIS, US military officers with CAC, seafarers included in the seaman’s book and diplomats or other travelers holding official or service passports.
Traveling to/from the UK
ETA: May be required by citizens of certain countries for stays up to 6 months, including EU and Schengen citizens from 2 April 2025. Apply for an ETA at least 3 days before departure for all travelers (including children and infants).
UK VISA/EVISA: Travelers using a biometric residence permit (BRP), biometric residence card (BRC) or visa vignette sticker should ensure eVISA passport details are up to date and register travel documents to their account. Show more about eVisa
Traveling to/from the US
APIS: Required
ESTA: Visa Waiver Program travelers must obtain ESTA approval before boarding
Address of first night’s stay: Required, even for transit stays
TSA: Personal details including redress number, if applicable
Traveling to/from Canada
ETA: for visa-exempt travelers. Apply for an ETA at least 72 hours before departure.
Traveling to/from Thailand
From 1 May 2025, all non-Thai travelers traveling to Thailand must fill in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival.
The TDAC cannot be completed earlier than 3 days before departure.
Thai nationals returning to Thailand are not required to fill out the TDAC.

What is a Schengen country?
The Schengen Agreement governs free movement within European member states, which means that you don’t need to show your passport if it has been issued by a Schengen country when you enter or pass through a Schengen country.
The Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
You have to show your passport when you check in and board the aircraft when you are traveling to a non-Schengen country.
What is valid ID for traveling within EU countries or the Schengen area?
For air travel within Europe, you should always carry either a passport or a national ID card. A driver’s license alone is not sufficient.
