Welcome to our travel info center

Here’s where you can find information about your trip by topic or where you are on your journey.

Check-in & boarding

For most SAS flights, it's easiest to check in online from 30 hours up to 1 hour before departure. This way, you can skip the lines, select your seat and get your digital boarding pass.

Check-in & boarding deadlines

You can always see check-in and boarding deadlines for your flight in the SAS app or on the screens at the airport. Here are the general check-in, bag drop and boarding deadlines for SAS flights by destination.

Scandinavia & Europe

  • Check-in and bag drop close 45 minutes before departure

  • For flights from Greenland, check-in and bag drop close 60 minutes before departure

  • Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure

Asia & North America

  • Check-in and bag drop close:

    • 90 minutes before departure (Economy and Premium)

    • 60 minutes before departure (Business)

  • Boarding closes 35 minutes before departure

Africa

  • Check-in and bag drop close 60 minutes before departure

  • Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure

To make your trip as smooth as possible, we recommend arriving at least 2 hours before departure, especially during peak travel times like holidays, so you have enough time to drop your bags and pass through security. If you’re traveling to or from a destination outside of Europe, we recommend arriving 3 hours before departure.

FAQs

What are check-in and bag drop deadlines for charter flights?

You need to check in and drop your bag at least 60 minutes before departure, and boarding closes 20 minutes before departure. If you booked via a tour operator, other deadlines may apply.

Does SAS offer priority boarding?

You may enjoy priority boarding depending on your ticket type or EuroBonus membership level. Otherwise, for all other travelers, your boarding group will be indicated on your boarding pass.

How does the boarding process work?

The gate agent will announce when it’s time to start boarding. Boarding is usually done in groups based on your ticket type, travel class or loyalty status. You’ll see your boarding group on your boarding pass (group 1, 2, 3 etc.) We recommend staying seated until your group is called. You can also follow the progress of boarding in the SAS app or check the gate screens to see which group is boarding.

What happens if I’m late getting to the gate?

Airlines must close gates on time to ensure an on-time departure. If you arrive after the boarding deadline, you may not be allowed to board. This is why we always recommend giving yourself plenty of time to reach your gate after passing through security.

Can I board early if I have special needs or small children?

Yes. Travelers who need extra assistance and families with small children may be invited to board early. If you require assistance, please inform a gate agent in advance.

Can I change my seat during boarding?

Your seat is assigned at check-in, and changes may not be possible at the gate. However, if you wish to change seats, you can always ask the gate agent who will check availability.

Do I need to show my passport or ID at the gate?

For international flights, you may be required to show your passport or ID. For domestic flights, a boarding pass is usually sufficient.

How does the bag drop work for checked baggage?

The easiest way to check in your bag is to use the self-service bag drop at the airport. Just follow the instructions on the screen to print and attach your bag tag to your bag. It’s also a good idea to attach the three smaller stickers from the tag to the sides of your bag to make it easier to track. Then just scan your bag at the bag drop. Remember to keep your baggage receipt, which is also available in the SAS app.

What do I do if my bag tag rips off before I leave my bag at the bag drop?

Unfortunately, you can’t print new bag tags at the kiosk. To get a new tag, just go to the SAS counter at the airport for assistance.
