Cancellation & refund

If you're unable to travel and need to cancel your trip, you may be entitled to a refund. Below you'll find information about ticket refund rules and how to apply for a refund.

Refund rules

The refunded amount is based on ticket rules. Some tickets are fully refundable while others are non-refundable or require paying a service fee to process the refund. Taxes are always refunded if you cancel a trip, regardless of the ticket type. All refunds are processed using the original form of payment used for the purchase.

Please note:

  • If you cancel your trip, service charges, cancellation fees and any travel extras (e.g. pre-selected seat, meals, lounge access) will not be refunded.

  • If your flight has been canceled by SAS, you'll receive a full refund including service charges, cancellation fees and any travel extras.

Fully refundable tickets

You are entitled to a full refund if you cancel you ticket within our flexible 24-hours booking policy or if you've purchased one of the following tickets:

  • SAS Go Pro

  • SAS Plus Pro

  • SAS Business Pro (except to/from China)

  • SAS Bonus tickets on SAS and Star Alliance if you cancel no later than 24 hours before your outbound departure

    • valid points will be refunded, expired points will not be refunded

    • once you've started a Bonus trip, no points for your return trip will be refunded

Please note:

Tickets refundable for a fee

The following ticket types can be refunded for a fee:

  • SAS Go Pro

  • SAS Plus Smart / SAS Plus Pro

  • SAS Business Smart (except from Canada and the US)

  • SAS Business Pro (only to/from China)

Non-refundable tickets

Non-refundable tickets cannot be returned for a refund. However, we'll refund taxes for the following ticket types:

  • SAS Go Light / SAS Go Smart

  • SAS Business Smart (only from Canada and the US)

  • SAS Youth tickets

Tickets paid with points and cash

If you paid your ticket with EuroBonus points combined with another form of payment, you need to check the refund rules of the ticket.

How to apply for refund

Tickets issued by SAS

  • Go to My bookings

  • Enter your booking reference and last name or log in.

  • Open the booking and click "Cancel & Refund”.

  • Select the travelers and flights you’d like a refund for and click "Continue".

If for some reason you cannot apply for your refund online, please call SAS Customer Service for help.

Please note:

If your flight has been canceled by SAS, you can choose to rebook to another flight or get a refund; a SAS Travel Voucher or the money back. Go to My bookings

About SAS Travel Voucher

If SAS has canceled a flight and you'd like a refund for your ticket, you also have the option to choose a travel voucher for the refundable amount.

The voucher can be used for trips to all SAS destinations by you or another traveler. The voucher is valid for 1 year from the date of issue and any remaining amount is refundable after 1 year from the date of issue.

Tickets issued by a travel agent

To request a refund for a flight booked through a travel agent or online travel agency, contact them directly or fill out this form.

Cancel due to visa rejection

In the case of a visa rejection, you can cancel a trip booked directly via SAS by uploading a copy of your official visa rejection.

Cancellation due to death in immediate family

In the unfortunate event of a death within your immediate family, we will, of course help you cancel your trip and refund your tickets. Just fill in this form.

Refund handling

The refund process

  1. After we've processed your refund request, we'll email you a refund notice to let you know the amount that will be refunded. No refund notice will be generated for tickets paid with points and cash.

  2. The amount will be refunded using the original form of payment used for the purchase. Please note that it can take up to 7 working days, from you receive the refund notice, for the refund to be shown in your statement.

Lower refund than expected?

Refunds of tickets are dependent on the following:

  • If you canceled your booking before your flight was canceled by the airline, your refundable amount is based on the rules that apply to your ticket.

  • For SAS Go Light or a SAS Go Smart tickets, only taxes are refunded. The ticket fare and international/domestic fees/surcharges are not refunded.

  • If you had a ticket refundable for a fee, the full amount minus the fee will be refunded, for example, in the case of SAS Plus Smart and SAS Business Smart tickets.

  • If you've booked a round trip and only want to fly one way, your refund swill depend on the ticket rules for the unused part of the trip. In this case, you'll receive your refund after you've completed your trip.
