Welcome to our travel info center

Here’s where you can find information about your trip by topic or where you are on your journey.

If your flight is canceled

If your flight is canceled, we'll notify you as soon as possible based on the contact information in your booking as well as in the SAS app. If you're already in the air, we'll take care of you.

Once you've been notified, you'll have 3 options:

  • Accept and travel on a new proposed flight – we’ll do our best to rebook you on the next available flight under similar conditions and take care of you at the airport, if necessary. Just accept the proposed flight and inform any other travelers in your booking

  • Rebook on another flight, free of charge – you can rebook easily under My trips. If you're traveling with a group, pet or wheelchair, or if you're traveling as an unaccompanied minor or have other airlines included in your itinerary, you'll need to contact SAS Customer Service or your travel agent to rebook your trip.

  • Cancel your booking and get a refund – to get a refund, you need to cancel your flight before the unused flight departs.

After you've chosen an option, any further changes you make to your flight will depend on the rules for your original ticket.

Your rights in the event of a cancellation

  • If you need accommodations (and cannot reasonably return home) due to a cancellation for which we have not proposed a new same-day flight, you're entitled to stay in a reasonably-priced hotel overnight, as well as reimbursement for transportation between the airport and the accommodations. Remember to save all receipts.

  • You're entitled to a full refund for your unused ticket if your flight is canceled and you decide not to travel. If you choose to cancel and request a refund for your flight, you won't be eligible for compensation such as for meals, drinks or accommodations.

If you make your own travel arrangements due to a cancellation, you're entitled to compensation for your alternative transportation or flight on another airline if SAS is unable to offer you a flight at the earliest opportunity. Remember to save all your receipts.

FAQs

Am I entitled to compensation for a delayed or canceled flight?

You may be entitled to compensation under European Regulation 261/2004 if your flight is delayed or canceled less than 14 days before departure and no suitable rerouting options are offered. Compensation is not available if the delay or cancellation is communicated more than 14 days in advance or if reasonable alternatives are provided. Show full EU 261 passenger rights

When am I not entitled to EU compensation for a delayed or canceled flight?

You’re not entitled to EU compensation under Regulation 261/2004 if:

  • You were informed of the delay or cancellation more than 14 days before your original departure date.

  • The delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond our control, such as severe weather, air traffic control restrictions, or security issues.

Please note that consequential costs related to a delay (such as lost work income or prepaid events) are generally not reimbursed.

Can I get a full refund if my flight is canceled?

Yes, if your flight is canceled and you decide not to travel, you are entitled to a full refund for your unused ticket within 7 days. This applies even if only part of your journey is affected. For example, if your outbound flight is canceled but your return flight is unaffected, you can still request a full refund for both flights, as long as they are part of the same booking. Just make sure you cancel your flight before the first unused flight departs under My trips

How do I get a refund if I bought my ticket from a travel agent?

If you booked your trip through a travel agent, contact them for a refund. If this isn't possible, you can apply for a refund directly from SAS unless you booked via a US travel agent. If you booked through SAS Holidays, contact SAS Holidays Customer Service
