Unaccompanied minors

- we look after your little ones on their own

  • Sometimes children need to travel on their own. We offer a service that ensures they are well looked after for the entire trip.

  • Unaccompanied minor service is available for children from 5-15 years of age. Children 5-11 years of age must use this service, but for children 12-15 years of age, the service is optional. If your child is 5-11 years of age and traveling with a person who is 16 or older, you do not need to book this service.

  • Some countries may require a letter of consent, signed by a parent or legal guardian, for children aged 12-16 traveling alone without assistance.

  • Book assistance as soon as possible before departure to ensure that your child has a confirmed place. Flights within Scandinavia on Widerøe and within Europe can be booked online, while flights to the rest of the world can be booked through SAS Sales and Service.

  • Unaccompanied minor service costs €40 for domestic flights and €50 for international flights per direction. Additional fees may apply when traveling from another country to Scandinavia or if you are traveling with one of our partners on a codeshare.

  • Fill out a handling advice document prior to departure. It contains personal information about your child, itinerary and the name of the person picking up the child on arrival. It must be signed by a parent/legal guardian. You can download the form on and fill it out ahead of time. If you cannot print out the form, you can fill it out at the airport. • You must accompany your child to the airport, help them check in and drop off baggage. You must present a valid ID at check-in regardless of destination and remain at the airport until the flight has departed.

  • Note: Check-in for unaccompanied minors must be completed no later than 45 minutes before departure. Check-in may take longer during peak periods.

  • Your child will receive help from the staff through security control to the gate and onboard the flight. Once onboard, our staff will help your child find his or her seat, take care of him or her throughout the flight and help him or her off the plane upon arrival. We always offer children traveling alone something from Our Café onboard.

  • If your child is traveling domestically within Sweden, you can follow them all the way to the gate. For all other destinations, EU rules state you cannot follow your child beyond security control. Contact staff at the airport so that they can help you with all the formalities.

  • On arrival, you cannot meet your child outside the aircraft. Staff will meet your child at the aircraft, take care of any possible baggage and go through customs and passport control. They will then leave the child with the contact person (the adult stated in the handling document). In order to confirm it is the right person, he or she must present a valid photo ID.

  • If the flight is delayed or encounters other irregularities, we will offer your child special attention and assistance. We will ensure that you as a parent will receive full information on all changes. Your child will never be without supervision. Unaccompanied minors are not accepted if it is unclear prior to departure whether it is possible to land at the arrival airport due to bad weather or other extraordinary circumstances.

  • For flights to/from SAS destinations in Asia and the US, we can offer assistance. If the child will be continuing the trip with another airline however, this special assistance is not available.
