SAS offers an Unaccompanied minor service for children age 5–17 on flights within Scandinavia and age 5–15 on European and most other flights.

For children 5-11 years of age our service is mandatory, but for children 12–15 years of age, it's optional if requested by their parents or guardians. For children aged 16–17 we offer this service when traveling within Scandinavia.

The parent/legal guardian, or an authorized adult must accompany/take the child to the check-in and stay until the flight has departed. At some airports you may be required to accompany your child to the gate yourself. Please enquire about this at a SAS check-in counter when you arrive at the airport.

Our Unaccompanied Minor service ensures your child will be introduced to the flight attendant, chaperoned during all connections, helped with any baggage and through customs and passport checks. At their destination the child will be released to the appropriate person (as authorized in writing by a parent/guardian) at the gate.

  • The Unaccompanied minor service is only available if the child is traveling on a regular ticket. If the child is traveling on SAS Youth tickets he or she cannot use this service.

  • Some countries require written consent from a parent or legal guardian for children age 12–16 traveling alone without assistance.

  • For trips from another country to Scandinavia and on our partner airlines other fees may apply.

  • For flights to / from SAS destinations in Asia and North America, we can offer assistance. If the child will be continuing the trip with another airline however, this assistance is not available.

To use the Unaccompanied Minor service, you’ll pay an assistance fee in addition to the flight ticket.

  • Available for purchase online for children aged 5–11 for trips within Scandinavia and Europe.

  • The Unaccompanied minor service charge is collected per child, per one way on SAS flights.

More info about our fees.

The parent / legal guardian must complete a form containing the child's personal information, travel route and the name of the person who will leave the child at departure and be meeting the child upon arrival.

If the child's travel route includes a night stop, or transfer between two airports, the parent / guardian must arrange for transfer escort. This information must be included on the form.

Present our unaccompanied minor form (PDF, 752KB) to our airport representatives when the child is checking in. To avoid delays, make sure you complete the entire form and bring all three copies to check-in at the airport.

  • Make sure the child has the essential belongings in the carry-on baggage.

  • The parent/legal guardian, or an authorized adult, brings the child to check-in counter at least 2 hours before the departure. Bring the three signed unaccompanied minor forms with you.

  • The parent/legal guardian should help the child check in and drop off the baggage.

  • The parent/guardian must show valid ID at check-in and stay at the airport until the child's flight has taken off.

  • Our assistance staff will pick up the child after check-in and stay with him or her through passport control, security screening and to the gate.

We do not allow unaccompanied minors on the flight if there's uncertainty about landing at a destination due to weather conditions or other extraordinary circumstances.

A member of the cabin crew will welcome the child onboard and look after him or her for the duration of the flight. The child will enjoy something to eat and drink during the flight.

On some of our flights the crew may only be speaking English.

After landing our airport staff will welcome the child at the gate and take him or her through passport control and customs. The person who is collecting the child must arrive at the terminal on time, be a legal adult and have valid identification.

In the event of a delay or other unforeseen situation, the child will be accompanied and we will keep the parent/guardian updated.
