Which airport is best for reaching the Scottish Highlands?
It depends on which part of the Highlands you plan to visit. Edinburgh Airport is often the best choice if you are heading towards the eastern areas or the Cairngorms National Park. Glasgow Airport is strategically better located if you are travelling towards the west coast, Loch Lomond, or onward to islands such as the Isle of Mull and the Isle of Skye. What is it like to hire a car and drive in Scotland?
Car hire is available directly at both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, making it easy to pick up your vehicle right after you land and collect your baggage. The tiny Scottish biting insects, locally known as midges, are most active in the Highlands and western regions during the summer months, particularly from June to August, when the weather is humid and still.
