Animal in cargo hold

Animal in cargo hold
  • Animals that are checked in as cargo must travel in transport boxes that are leak-proof, solid, tight, clean & disinfected.

  • The box must be made of fiberglass, metal (not welded or wire mesh), rigid plastic, solid wood or plywood with handles on the sides & a solid floor (net floors not accepted). The box must be equipped with containers for food & water & the bottom of the cage should be covered with a layer of newspaper or sawdust (not hay or straw).

  • For the animal's comfort, the cage must be large enough so that the animal can stand up, turn and lie naturally. If the cage does not fulfill the requirements, check-in staff may reject it. Cage dimensions
  • SAS transport boxes, approved by the veterinary authorities, are available for purchase from Trust Forwarding.

  • There is a fixed price per cage & flight segment.

  • Two adults animals of comparable size up to 14 kg/31 lbs. each can be transported in the same cage if they are used to cohabitation. Animals over 14 kg/31 lbs. each must travel in separate crates.

  • Up to three animals can be transported together if they are under 6 months old and come from the same litter.

  • On Airbus 319, 320 & 321 flights of over 3 hours, the maximum weight of each animal is 30 kg/66 lbs. & the maximum total accepted animal weight is 60 kg/132 lbs.

  • Animals are not accepted on flights operated by Privatair between Copenhagen–Boston.

  • When animals are transported in the cargo hold, the pressure and temperature are the same as in the passenger cabin. The availability of oxygen in the cargo hold for live animals limits the number and size of the animals that are transported at the same time.

  • Restrictions on the transport of animals in the hold apply during the following periods on flights (not applicable to already made bookings):
    • To or from all destinations on flights operated with either CRJ – ATR aircrafts during the period 15 June – 15 August 2018
    • On all flights from Athens to Scandinavia during the period 15 June – 15 August 2018
