London Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage across the airport due to a large fire at a nearby electrical substation. Whilst fire crews are responding to the incident, there is still no clarity on when power may be reliably restored.
To maintain the safety of passengers and employees, the authorities have no choice but to close London Heathrow until 23h59 on 21 March 2025.
Significant disruption over the coming days are expected and passengers should not travel to the airport under any circumstances until the airport reopens. Updates to the situation will be provided when more information on the resumption of operations is available.
SAS operations
Currently, all 12 SAS roundtrips to and from London Heathrow are canceled. We are doing our outmost to keep affected passengers informed and urge anyone with questions to contact SAS directly.
We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in continuous dialogue with the airport authorities at London Heathrow. Naturally, we hope for a swift resolution.
London Heatrow is one of the world's largest airports, and disruptions of this scale have global ripple effects. The full extent is still unclear, but we recognize the significant impact on passenger. SAS is fully committed to assisting affected travelers and doing everything possible to support them.
Rebooking
SAS Passenger Recovery center is rebooking customers to closest available option.
Customers does not need to take any action unless receiving a message to do so.
Refund
Refund permitted for canceled flights.
For flights not yet canceled, refund according to applicable ticket rules.
If you do not need a visa to visit the UK for short stays of up to six months, you might need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).
If you hold a UK visa and use a biometric residence permit (BRP) or card (BRC) to prove your immigration status, access your eVisa before your travel to the UK.
If you already have an eVisa, make sure your travel document is registered to your account.
As a traveler you are responsible for making sure you meet the necessary requirements to enter your destination, before leaving for the airport.

As a part of the work to improve punctuality, SAS is making a change to the check-in and boarding deadlines.
Therefore, the new deadlines are:
Domestic and Scandinavian flights
- Check-in / baggage drop closes 45 minutes before departure.
- Boarding, closes 20 minutes before departure.Flights to/from Europe
- Check-in / baggage drop closes 45 minutes before departure.
- Boarding, closes 20 minutes before departure.Flights to/from Asia and North America
- Check-in / baggage drop closes 60 minutes before departure (SAS Business / SAS Plus).
- Check-in / baggage drop closes 90 minutes before departure (SAS Go).
- Boarding, closes 35 minutes before departure.Flights to/from Africa
- Check-in / baggage drop closes 60 minutes before departure.
- Boarding, closes 20 minutes before departure.
The change applies for all channels where check-in functionality is available.
Due to the current situation in the region SAS has decided to pause all flights to Ukraine and Ukraine airspace until further notice.
As a consequence of the closure of Russian airspace, we are also making changes to routings for our flights to China resulting in longer flight times of approx. 2 hours.
