Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is an excellent choice as a travel destination. Stockholm is the largest city in Sweden and one of the oldest, with over 700 years of history. Located on the coast, Stockholm is widely known for its natural beauty and its beaches, parks and green spaces in the city. It is also one of the most heavily populated urban areas in Scandinavia and boasts a rich culture and a wide variety of attractions, activities, shopping, dining and great accommodations.

There are many things to do and see in Stockholm. The city has more than 100 museums, including the Vasa Museum, home to the world's only preserved 17th-century ship, the Junibacken museum of children’s books, the National Museum of art and many more. Gamla stan is another one of Stockholm's excellent tourist attractions. The original city centre was founded in 1252 and is now one of the best preserved and largest medieval city centres in Europe. The Stockholm area is home to a number of castles, which are also great tourist destinations. The Royal Palace, the official residence of His Majesty the King of Sweden, is one of Europe's largest castles and only one of many in the Stockholm area. Boat tours are another excellent choice in Stockholm tourist activities and the city has a number of boat tours available including the Hop-On Hop-Off tour, which allows passengers to take in Stockholm from the water while being allowed to step off the boat and see sights from land.

Stockholm is a foodie's dream, with more than 1000 restaurants to choose from. There are choices for every taste in Stockholm. Södermalm is one of Stockholm's popular dining districts. Oriented toward a young, vibrant clientele, the restaurants in Södermalm include the Sjögräs for high-end adventurous dining, the chic and intimate Roxy and other popular dining options. To experience great dining choices with local flare, choose one of the many restaurants located in Gamla stan. Frantzén/Lindeberg is a particularly popular local haunt and Djuret is a local treat that serves only one kind of meat at any time based on the season in order to maintain the most sustainable management of the city's meat.

In addition to countless dining and entertainment options, Stockholm has a wide variety of guest accommodations. Hotels, hostels, bed & breakfasts and vacation cottages are all among the popular accommodation choices in Stockholm. High-end hotels are available to cater to tourists with luxurious tastes and great expectations, while local hostels offer economic accommodations in a communal setting.
