You don’t need to choose between sitting comfortably or sustainably when you decide to take in SAS’ exciting program at SXSW 2020. SAS, the creator of pop-up lounge House of Scandinavia in Austin, is collaborating with some sustainable Nordic furniture suppliers.
All indoor seats at HOS during South by South West in Austin come from Danish furniture manufacturer Takt, whose business concept focuses on sustainability and high quality.
“Takt is a newcomer to the furniture industry and has developed a reputation for its good design. They focus a lot on the packaging of their furniture and work on the flat-pack principle, ensuring that the furniture takes up as little space as possible whilst it is in transit,” says Frank Otterbeck, Senior Project Leader at SAS.
All outdoor furniture at the event, such as park benches, will be supplied by Norwegian manufacturer Vestre, the aim being to bring people together and create meeting places.
“Their furniture is extremely sustainable and is produced in the most energy efficient way possible. We’ve chosen these partners because of their desire to consume less energy,” says Otterbeck.
Sustainability is also set to take center stage in the development of House of Scandinavia in Austin, with as much as possible being done locally on site:
“We always go for the most sustainable option, and that approach applies to everything from coffee cups to walls.”
