Touring

If you’re thinking of touring in Norway to see the coastal regions, mountains and areas of wilderness, you have a number of options. These combine marvellous scenery with exciting travel experiences.

You can explore the fjords on Norway's western coast by booking short cruises. It’s only when you sail between the steeply rising cliffs of the fjords that you can feel the majesty of these glacier-formed valleys. Two fjords that are particularly worth visiting are Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Back on land, rent a car during the summer months in Norway. If so, consider using one or more of the national tourist routes. There are six of these that take you to the fjords, mountains and coastal areas.

Fishing in Norway

Activities

Norway takes full advantage of its scenery by providing a wide range of outdoor activities in magnificent settings.

If you enjoy fishing, you can catch coalfish, cod and mackerel along the coast, pike and trout in the lakes, and salmon in the rivers. If you’d rather go hiking or cycling, you have dozens of adventures you can embark on throughout the country.

For an activity you won’t come across at home, why not try sledging in northern Norway? A team of dogs will pull you across the snow-bound plains and give you an experience you'll remember forever. Many of you may also be looking for more traditional amusements. If so, visit the TusenFryd and Bø Sommarland amusement parks. The rides are exceptional and sure to keep the family entertained.

Finally, Norway is home to a number of extreme sports. Among these are ice climbing, off-road biking, snow kiting and river rafting, as well as skiing.

Trondheim

Urban areas

Norway's urban areas can give you as much activities as the countryside. Many of the cities and towns in Norway are worth seeing for their architecture, museums, restaurants and markets. Bergen, Tromsø, Trondheim and Oslo, the capital, are great places to investigate and spend time.

Because there’s always so much to do, you might want to call into the local tourist information office of each town or city before you start sightseeing. This way, you can plan what you want to see and when.
