  • The National Museum of Denmark is Denmark's largest museum, covering 14,000 years of Danish cultural history: from the Ice Age to Vikings to the present. Free admission.
  • The National Gallery of Denmark is home to art from the past 700 years, including a supreme collection of paintings from the so-called Danish Golden Age. Free admission to some collections.
  • Rosenborg Castle, a beautiful fairytale castle complete with a moat, displays the Danish crown jewels and Danish Crown Regalia.

  • The Danish Jewish Museum, housed in a unique building designed by Daniel Libeskind, tells the story of 400 years of Jewish life in Denmark.
  • Designmuseum Danmark features famous 20th-century Danish design and more.
  • The Danish Design Center hosts several Danish and international design exhibitions every year.
  • The Danish Architecture Center presents exhibitions with a focus on new architecture, urban development and innovation.

Museums near Copenhagen

A number of superb museums are located just a little outside of the city of Copenhagen and well worth the short trip. They include the Viking Ship Museum, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Karen Blixen Museum, Ordrupgaard art museum and House of Finn Juhl, the Danish designer, ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, the Open Air Museum Frilandsmuseet, a living history museum, Frederiksborg Castle/National History Museum and Kronborg, also known as Hamlet's castle.
