Helsinki is one of the top tourist destinations in northern Europe. Helsinki is home to many museums and cultural institutions, including the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, Ateneum Art Museum, Military Museum of Finland, National Museum of Finland and Heureka Science Centre.

For recreation and leisure, Helsinki boasts many parks, including Esplanadi Park, Töölönlahti and Central Park. Other top sites and destinations in the city include the Olympic Tower, Sibelius Monument, Finlandia Hall, Linnanmäki amusement park and the fascinating Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art. Helsinki also offers a plethora of excellent shopping, nightlife and dining destinations.

Helsinki is a compact city with well laid out and intertwined streets and districts. Helsinki is the 2012 World Design Capital, ensuring the Finnish capital will be buzzing with tourists this year.

Getting around Helsinki

Helsinki boasts an excellent transportation network and an abundance of public transit options. The city’s sprawling tram network is the best way to get around Helsinki, although subway, bus, train and ferry are other viable options as well. Taxi and car rental services are also available in Helsinki and its suburbs.

One of Europe’s most spectacular and beautiful cities, Helsinki is not to be missed. With everything from magnificent cathedrals to world-class shopping, visiting Helsinki is undoubtedly a most rewarding experience.
