Children sometimes need to travel on their own. We offer an unaccompanied minor assistance service to ensure that they are looked after during the entire trip. The service permits children 5-15 years of age to fly alone. The service is mandatory for children 5-11 years of age, but is optional for travellers from 12 to 15 years of age. If requested by the parent/guardian, the child cannot decline the service. If a child 5-11 years of age is travelling with a child 16 years or older, you do not need to book assistance.
Please book assistance as soon as possible before departure to ensure that your child has a confirmed place. Flights within Scandinavia on Widerøe can be booked online, while flights to and from Europe and the rest of the world can be booked with SAS Customer Contact Center.

At the airport, you will help your child check in and drop off baggage. You must always present a valid ID at check-in regardless of destination and you can remain at the airport until the flight has departed.
Note: Check-in for children travelling alone must be completed 45 minutes before departure at the latest. Please note that check-in might take longer during peak periods.
Your child will receive help from the staff through security control to the gate and onboard the flight. Once onboard, our staff will help your child find his or her seat, take care of your child throughout the flight and help your child off the plane upon arrival. We always offer children travelling alone something from Our Café onboard.
EU rules state that only those who are travelling who have a boarding pass can pass through security control and go into the transit area. If your child is travelling domestically within Sweden, you can follow your child all the way to the gate regardless of the rules. Contact staff at the airport so that they can help you with all the formalities.
On arrival, you cannot meet your child outside the aircraft. Staff will meet your child at the aircraft, take care of any possible baggage and go through customs and passport control. They will then leave the child with the contact person (an adult who is stated in the handling document). In order to confirm it is the right person, a valid ID card is required for the person meeting your child.
If there is a delay, your child will receive special attention and assistance. We ensure that you as parents will receive updated information on possible changes in the trip. Your child will never be left unattended.
Flights to Asia and the US
This service is also offered for travel to/from SAS destinations in the US and Asia. If your child will travel onward with another airline, this service is not offered as of July 1, 2011 (applies only to new bookings).
