Midnight Sun

Midnight Sun in Scandinavia

During the summer in Scandinavia, the sun never sets....

Explore the exceptional beauty of Arctic Scandinavia and the remarkable midnight sun.

The midnight sun in Norway and Sweden is a phenomenon occurring in latitudes north of the Arctic Circle, where the sun remains visible at midnight. If the weather is fair, the sun is visible for a continuous 24 hours.

The further north of the Arctic Circle you travel, the greater the number of days the midnight sun may be visible. The Arctic Circle in northern Norway is located close to the Arctic town of Bodø and south of the Lofoten Islands.

If you travel south of the Arctic Circle, you will find the Scandinavian nights are bright, with over 20 hours of daylight during early summer due to the altitude. Although the sun is not visible all night, you can still enjoy the extended evenings, with the sun setting sometimes as late as 11:30 pm.

To enjoy Scandinavia to the fullest with the extended daylight hours, why not cruise through the Norwegian fjords? Start in the far north in Kirkenes, passing the North Cape (known as the northernmost point in Europe) visiting the city of Tromsø, the beautiful Lofoten Islands and finish your cruise in the historic city of Trondheim.

We offer daily flights to northern Norway and Sweden from many destinations across Europe and around the world. With SAS, you always benefit from child discounts and free baggage allowances and seat reservations. We also offer you more choice than any other airline with the most comprehensive timetable to and from Scandinavia.
