Passport & Visa

Regardless of your destination, whenever you check in any baggage, you will have to identify yourself. You will also be asked to show your ID card or passport when boarding.

Children and infants must present valid travel documents, including passports, national ID cards and visas, to prove their citizenship when travelling together with their parents/guardians or as unaccompanied minors.

When traveling to the United States of America, you are required to have fulfilled the following requirements in order to be eligible to enter the country.

If you do not hold a machine-readable passport or if your planned stay will exceed 90 days, you must obtain a US visa prior to departure at an US embassy if necessary.

1. Mandatory information for the reservation – passenger information and address first night
Note that SAS cannot check in passengers if the following information is missing

Passenger information
For travelling to/from and within the US, authorities require that all names, including first, middle and last as written in your passport, date of birth and gender are included in the reservation. This also applies if you have received a redress number from the American authorities (e.g. if you have encountered problems getting your boarding card accepted). The information must be provided in the reservation at least 72 hours prior to departure. Passengers with reservations without this information may not be permitted to board the aircraft. It is the passenger's responsibility to provide the information to SAS on time. For reservations made within 72 hours, passenger data must be entered at the time of reservation.

If your are traveling with an infant (child under 2 years of age), please contact SAS or your travel agent to register passenger information.

Privacy Notice
"The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires you to provide your full name, date of birth and gender for the purpose of watchlist screening under the authority of 49 U.S.C. section 114, the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 and 49 C.F.R parts 1540 and 1560. You may also provide your redress number if available. Failure to provide your full name, date of birth and gender may result in denial of transport or authority to enter the boarding area. The TSA may share the information you provide with law enforcement or intelligence agencies or others under its published system of records notice. For more information on TSA privacy policies or to review the system of records notice and privacy impact assessment, please visit the TSA website at www.tsa.gov."

Address for first night in the US
When you are travelling to the US (including transit), please provide the address for the first night in the US by the time you check in at the latest. The address can also be entered when booking the reservation or by registering it through the link below to speed up the check-in process at the airport. First-night address registration does not apply for US citizens or green card holders.

2. Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for travel to or via the US

US authorities require passengers eligible to travel under the Visa Waiver Program (see table below) to apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) online before departure. In most cases, the application is handled immediately and you will receive an answer online instantly. In some cases, it may take longer.
It is the responsibility of the passenger to secure that an ESTA has been approved prior to departure. US authorities recommend that passengers complete their applications at least 72 hours at the latest before departure.
An approved ESTA is valid for 2 years and allows for multiple visits to the US. If you renew your passport, you will need to complete a new ESTA application. A fee of $14 will be charged per application. Please make sure all passport details are correctly spelled when filling in the forms. The check-in system will verify whether you have an approved ESTA and match the entered information electronically from the passport. If the passport information you provide in the ESTA application is inconsistent with what is read electronically, you will be denied admission to the US.

Please note that without a visa or approved ESTA registration, you will not be able to board your flight to the US.

Note: Passengers who hold a visa do not need to apply for ESTA.
