Checked baggage

Checked baggage (carried in the hold)

From July 1st we simplify our baggage concept and introduce a new baggage concept for all bookings with departure on and after October 1st 2010. The new baggage concept applies on all flights operated by SAS Group, i.e SAS, Blue1 and Widerøe.

As before, baggage is always included in the ticket and you can bring at least one checked bag and one cabin bag free of charge. The baggage rules are the same regardless of destination for departures on and after October 1st 2010!

If you have a booking made before July 1st , 2010 or have a departure before October 1st , other rules apply - Click here!

The number of bags and weight varies depending on ticket type. Below you find information about the number of bags that you are allowed to check in free of charge on flights operated by SAS to/from all destinations

Please note! Other baggage rules may apply when flying with flights operated by other airlines than SAS, Blue1 and Widero. Please check with the respective airline before departure.

Weight regulations
When the total weight  or dimension of your baggage exceeds the baggage allowance, and when you travel with any kind of special baggage, for example sporting equipment, you shall request this in advance at the time of reservation.
For health and safety reasons each piece of your baggage must not weigh more than 32 kg / 70 lbs. If your piece of baggage weighs more than 32 kg / 70 lbs per piece, we ask you to repack the baggage or send it as cargo.

  Information about Excess baggage charges
Travel with one of our Partner Airlines (code share)
These baggage rules apply for SAS operated flights. If you are travelling with one of our Partner Airlines on a so called "codeshare flight", the operating airline’s baggage rules may apply. Please check with the respective airline before departure.

Travel with connections
If you are continuing with another SAS flight, or with Blue1 and Widerøe, the same baggage rules apply for the entire trip. Should you however continue with another airline, SAS baggage rules may be more generous than that airline’s baggage concept. Please check with the respective airline before departure to determine if you may need to pay for additional  or oversized baggage  or for excess weight on your connecting flight.

Notice: For Economy class tickets purchased on or before July 1st, 2010 for travel commencing before October 1st, 2010, a baggage fee of $50.00 each way will apply to passengers checking a second bag on flights to or from SAS’s U.S. gateways operated by SAS. On SAS flights from other U.S. cities operated by other airlines on behalf of SAS on a codeshare basis to SAS's U.S. gateways for onward travel on SAS-operated flights, and SAS Transatlantic flights to or from the U.S. operated by other airlines on behalf of SAS on a code share basis, a baggage fee for the second checked bag will also apply per person for the journey in most cases irrespective of the service class in which you are traveling on the SAS-operated flight. Some SAS Business class passengers may not be subject to this baggage fee for the second checked bag on the SAS code share flights from other U.S. cities to SAS’s U.S. gateways, and SAS Business class passengers on Transatlantic code share flights are not subject to this second checked bag fee. On connection flights to SAS’s U.S. gateways operated by other carriers and that do not carry the SAS code the baggage rules of the operating carrier apply. Please check with the respective airline before departure regarding its baggage rules. In all cases, additional higher fees will apply for three or more checked bags. Click here for more information on SAS’s excess baggage charges.

Baggage for children and infants

Children have the same baggage allowance as adults, as listed above. Infants under 2 years can, regardless of booking class, bring as checked baggage one bag up to 23 kg / 50 lbs (max 115 cm / 45") plus one collapsible stroller. Please keep in mind that you cannot bring any cabin baggage for your infant under 2 years old.

More baggage for EuroBonus members
As a EuroBonus Gold- or Silver member you can always check in one extra piece of baggage free of charge. The allowable weight of this extra piece depends on the ticket type you are traveling on.

Baggage drop

If you have used any of our Self Service devices when checking in, you shall leave your baggage at the Baggage Drop counter. The staff at the counter will make sure that the baggage tag is matched with your ticket and your ID.
