Flights to Aarhus

Aarhus
(Århus) is Denmark's second-largest city and one of Scandinavia's oldest. Aarhus is the principal port of Denmark on the peninsula of Jutland (Jylland) and is at the geographic center of the country.

Aarhus is mostly built out around the harbor though it is flanked on the one side by Risskov Forest. Blending urban life and quaint village charm, Aarhus is the perfect weekend getaway, especially when visiting Copenhagen, and is perfect for exploring on foot.

The Old Town

The Old Town in Aarhus, known as "Den Gamle By" in Danish, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2009. Visiting is like taking a long journey back in time to see what it was like to live and work in a Danish market town at the time of Hans Christian Andersen.

The Old Town is an open-air, living-history museum, giving visitors the chance to experience, eat and even shop as people did in the old days. With 75 historical buildings collected from townships all over Denmark, it is one of the country's top-rated museums.

Museums and other attractions

Aarhus also offers visitors a wide range of other museums and attractions. From the Kvindemuseet, a celebration of women's lives and work through the ages (the only museum of its kind in the world), to the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum and Japanese Zen Garden, Aarhus has a lot on offer.

When the kids need a break from the cultural sights, take the family to Tivoli Friheden, a regional amusement park with more than 40 rides, attractions and activities. The park is open April through October every year.

Aarhus music and culture

Aarhus is known beyond Denmark for its lively music, theater and arts scene. Every summer, Aarhus plays host to one of the largest cultural events certainly in Scandinavia, if not Europe. In a showcase of local, national and international artists, the Aarhus Festival involves art forms such as dance, sports, theatre, exhibitions, children’s acts and a wide variety of music.

Each year, the Aarhus Festival features a theme which has brought together such diverse acts as Japanese Taiko drummers, Cirque du Soleil, the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Green Day.
